Dubbed
as “Cape Town’s Hottest Nightclub” by HEAT Magazine,
Purgatory entertainment venue strives to provide clubbers with the best
party experience Cape Town has to offer. Purgatory is situated in Green
Point, right in the heart of what many people refer to as Cape Town’s
very own SOHO district, complete with characteristically exclusive clothing
stores, furniture shops and eateries.
Iain Mackenzie (ex Jet Lounge, Rhode’s House, Ivory Room) dreamt up the name “Purgatory” before approaching interior designer Francois van Eeden to help fulfil his dream. Purgatory’s 1940’s New York style club design combines art deco chic with modernistic elegance. More >> With
literally millions of Rands invested in the club’s design and development,
no expense has been spared to create a masterpiece worthy of acclaim.
Secure valet parking is offered upon arrival. Guests are ushered into an under-cover area (offering protection from the Cape’s unpredictable elements) before climbing the stairs of the club’s main entrance. Plush, leather-padded walls adorn the passageway that leads past the main bar and onto the dance floor. One is greeted by a magnificent setting as the soft, sensual orange glow of pedestal lights illuminate a series of stepped booths stretching up and away from the black porcelain dance floor. More >> The
main bar, situated next to the dance floor, is the perfect place to take
a break from the gyrating grooves of hot, sensual bodies. A second bar
situated at the top of the club’s well laid out floor plan looks
down onto the dance floor and offers a private gathering place that appeals
to the more relaxed socialite. The toilet facilities are impeccable. Porcelain
tiling continues through this area, creating uniformity and professionalism.
A puffy, padded DJ booth resembling a giant marshmallow floats into the ceiling as the music pumps and grinds to a familiar beat. More >> Purgatory
aims to play the full genre of House music every night that it is opened,
thereby verifying its mark as a true House venue by choice. Regular brand
promotions incorporating other music styles are introduced on occasion,
but consistency remains. The club opens its doors at 10pm from Wednesday
through to Saturday and closes when the last of its revellers stumbles
out in the early hours of the morning. Purgatory’s very own professional
dancers twist their bodies to the beats, creating a contagious effect
that really gets the club rocking.
More
>>
• Wednesday night is “Disco Heaven” fuelled by Brent
B, Evan M and Tobie Allen on decks who bring a funky, more contemporary
sound to the club. Cover charge is R30 at the door.
• Thursday is “OLD SKOOL” night as remixed house beats of the 90’s float through the club’s posh interior, creating more of a nostalgic rhythm that seems to spread like butter. DJ’s Nick e Louder, Tobie Smith and guests will keep you on your toes. Cover is also R30 at the door. • Friday and Saturday generate more of a progressive club sound, attracting serious clubbers looking for a good, long night out. Cover is R50 per person at the door. More >> The
highlight of the venue is the exclusive VIP room with its own set of personalised
toilet facilities. The strictly controlled VIP area is accessed from within
the main area of the club. Stairs lead down to a Moët & Chandon
branded glass door that opens onto a white landscape of leather art deco
divans and 20’s style paintings of elegant semi-naked female portraits
in full and living colour. This modernistic theme flows through the VIP
area and over to the bar that blends into a haze of emerald green. A majestic
staircase leads up to 4 exclusive VIP toilets with enough mirrors to make
even Alice think twice about venturing inside.
